2022 GMC Sierra 1500
The GMC Sierra 1500 is not your average truck. It takes everything you want a pickup truck to do and puts it all in an upscale package. For the 2022 model year, the Sierra 1500 received some updates, including two new trim levels to choose from. The base trim is now the Sierra Pro, and there are some changes in the cabin and to the exterior design.
Trim Levels
The entry-level Sierra Pro has LED headlights and taillights, a manual locking tailgate, chrome bumpers, 17-inch steel wheels, and heated side mirrors. A bump up to the SLE adds GMC's MultiPro tailgate, the EZ Lift power tailgate, LED bed lighting, and power-adjustable, heated side mirrors. The Elevation adds to the SLE with black 20-inch wheels and a gloss black grille, while the SLT has a power sunroof and heavy-duty oil coolers. Choose the AT4 for a 2-inch lift, skid plates, and mud-terrain tires, or go with the new AT4X for more upgrades.
The Denali adds 20-inch wheels and chrome trim, and the new Denali Ultimate has upgrades in the cabin.
Engine
The base powertrain for the Sierra is now a 2.7-liter four-cylinder gas engine that puts out 420 horsepower. A 5.3-liter V-8 with 355 horsepower is optional for the Pro, SLE, and SLT. The Denali and AT4 get power from a 6.2-liter V-8 that puts out 420 horsepower, and there's also a 3.0-liter turbodiesel as an option for the Denali that gets you 277 horsepower.
Performance
If you want to maximize your towing power with the Sierra 1500, the turbodiesel or the V-8 are your best bet. The diesel can pull up to 13,000 pounds, which is impressive for the Sierra's class. For off-road capabilities, the new AT4X has an off-road chassis, off-road-tuned springs, and Terrain Mode driving.
Interior
The 2022 Sierra received significant updates in the cabin. It has a redesigned center console and upgraded leather upholstery in the Denali Ultimate, which also has 16-way massaging front seats. The new AT4 is not only a capable off-roader; it's as luxurious as the Denali on the inside. The midlevel SLT has driver's seat memory settings, and the AT4 has heated and ventilated front seats.
You'll find impressive tech features in the 2022 Sierra. A 13.4-inch infotainment screen comes in the SLE, which also has a Wi-Fi hot spot, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and OnStar. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come in this trim and above, along with Google Built-in with access to Google Maps, the Google Play Store, and Google Assistant. Wireless charging is available, and GMC offers an upgraded Bose stereo system.
Safety
Every 2022 Sierra comes with a rearview camera, the Teen Driver system, and Buckle to Drive. GMC's Pro Safety Package now comes standard and has automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, following distance indicator, and lane-keep assist. It also includes lane-departure warning and automatic high beam headlights. Depending on the trim, a safety alert driver's seat is available, and you can also get adaptive cruise control, a color head-up display, an HD surround vision camera system, and trailer blind-spot detection.
